One of the suspects in the murder of [[Polyana Borges Arruda]], on September 23, 2009, Assad Haidar de Castro was granted a benefit and released under Law 12.403/2011 - the "Precautionary Measures Law," which amended 32 articles of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CPP). According to the head of the Denarc police station, Odair José Soares, Assad was released on the 7th of this month, as he is currently facing charges for robbery and illegal possession of a firearm. "The homicide case is still in the investigation phase, meaning there is an inquiry. Since he is not yet being prosecuted for this crime, the law ended up benefiting him," he said.
