Anyone who hears the name Ivo Bosaja Simon and knows how this citizen moved heaven and earth in search of his son would think of an arrogant, high-class individual with many influential contacts. But Mr. Ivo, or as he is more widely known, Seu Ivo, is the opposite of all that. He is a man of humble manners and gestures, who captivates with his simple way of talking about his family, his great passion.

It is difficult to analyze the Marco Aurélio Case without being enchanted by Seu Ivo. He, as he recounts, was born at a difficult time, at the beginning of World War II, the son of an alcoholic father — which pains him to recall — but, at the same time, a father who was a "wonderful" person, who encouraged him in reading and culture. His mother was from an Italian family, a statement he makes to reinforce the importance of family. (Remember, reader, how Italians are celebrated icons of family values; we recall here everything from the simplicity of a couple building their world around this core to mafia films that are built upon the figure of the great father or godfather, as in The Godfather).

Seu Ivo says that when he met his wife, Tereza Neuma Bezerra, at the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA), she refused to marry him because she couldn't have children. However, he promised her that if they couldn't have them, they would adopt.

Even with the difficulty of having children due to "health problems," the couple conceived five children. The first daughter was Adriana, who was born "at 8 months, a little cyanotic, but without problems." Two years later, Fábio was born: "blond, looked like the Johnson's baby, beautiful," but "had intestinal problems." He had to have surgery because Fábio couldn't have bowel movements; 80 cm of his intestine were removed.

The third and fourth children were twins: "three months in an incubator, the first feeding was a drop of milk on the mouth with a dropper." The twins, after three months, went home. They had a lot of difficulty walking; "they had some after-effects."

Marco Aurélio had a bit of strabismus: "he didn't look straight ahead, he looked to the side." At this moment, Seu Ivo recounts that he stayed with his daughter and three other children "between life and death," "taking them for a walk, not knowing if they would be with us the next day." When the children were older, Patrícia was born.

Seu Ivo makes it clear how, despite the difficulties, they were happy and fulfilled with each of their children's victories: "the twins played soccer, they were always the last ones, but they were never segregated at school. Fábio also played soccer wonderfully."
