©, Loire, in the past, navigable river,
I want to remind you of your wild course,
of your “affection that carries”
Was it not you
the great and first obstacle,
on the routes of the invaders?
Bring me
your impetuosity of yesteryear!
I evoke the murmur of the “gabares”,
those floating vessels, like barges,
sailing to the sound of oars
under the impulse of the West winds.
The flat bottom, going against the current,
the parade of square sails.
‘Perhaps, today, wild river, of crystalline lights,
my eyes do not witness
your sandbanks,
perpetually changing?
“You are the skeleton and the unity
of this landscape” — rich and plural —
full of villages and castles.
And, from France, heart and History,
Far away, some towers
awaken medieval stained glass windows.
Before Notre Dame de Chartres,
Paul Claudel, “Adoring,
Will cry out for its mystical radiance:
Behold, paradise regained”? =)
On your banks, time founders,
evokes
your song, cutting through mystery and poetry.
Hail, oh, river-poem,
golden shell of the Gardens of France!
