The Nego d'Água is a figure from Brazilian folklore, especially popular in the Center-West and Northeast regions, associated with rivers and deep waters. He is described as a dark-skinned aquatic being who lives in rivers, lakes, or reservoirs. His appearance is often associated with a muscular Black man with supernatural abilities linked to water.

According to legends, the Nego d'Água is a guardian of the rivers, responsible for protecting fish and the waters. He often sinks boats or plays pranks to scare fishermen, especially those who fish predatorily or disrespect the environment. In some versions, he also helps people in danger, such as when someone is drowning, but he is more commonly seen as a threatening or vengeful figure.

This legend reflects the respect and fear that many riverside communities have for deep waters and their mysteries.
