One hypothesis, already outlined by mountain guide and geologist Pedro Hauck, is that Marco Aurélio may have walked much further than the search team imagined.
As has been discussed here on the site, there is a myth that the searches were conducted within a 30 Km radius.
Marco Aurélio was sought in a stretch that went from Seu Afonso's house (base of Marins) to Seu Filhinho's farm, passing by Morro do Careca and the foothills of the mountain.
30 Km would be a perimeter that would reach the center of the city of Piquete, which is therefore unrealistic.
As a young man, Marco Aurélio may have managed to cover a long distance, perhaps 10, 15, or 18 Km.
However, with intense cold, rain, and a lack of adequate clothing, the scout may have succumbed to exhaustion.
He fought like a hero and concluded the adventure of his life in a location far from where they expected to find him.
