As happens in scout missions, they held a secret vote to decide who would be the monitor of that provisional patrol. Upon opening the votes, two went to Ricardo, one was blank, and another was illegible. Marco Aurélio then said he would have voted for himself, and several sources report that the teenager was displeased with the voting result.
I have not found in any document, podcast, or YouTube video any explanation for Marco Aurélio's handwriting being so poor that it made his vote illegible, or if he wrote illegibly because he was on a bus, without support, and the handwriting turned out that way. We do not know.
Later, we will learn that this voting episode was the only one described by Chief Juan as a moment when Marco Aurélio was unhappy with something on the trip.
09:00 AM: The teenagers and the Chief arrive in Lorena - SP, in the Paraíba Valley. From there, they proceed to Piquete - SP, where they are welcomed by Chief Paulinho (scout leader of the Puris Group).

Chief Juan provides details about his meeting with Chief Carlinho and makes his dissatisfaction with many things very clear, especially because he believed that the mission to climb Pico dos Marins would be a joint effort with local scouts from Piquete. However, upon arrival, he was simply left at Mr. Afonso's house.
In the live broadcast mentioned here, Chief Juan also says that he felt very dissatisfied at the time. Upon arriving at Seu Afonso's house, around noon, the resident reportedly looked at him suspiciously because he was a stranger. Then, Chief Carlinhos said they were good people, but then left, leaving the chief and the boys there.
Mr. Afonso was the owner of the house, the Base, now known as Refúgio dos Marins. Many truths and many myths were born in that place.

This was a challenging day for the scout group. The group, consisting of Chief Juan Bernabeu Céspedes, Osvaldo Lobeiro, Ricardo Salvioni, and Ramatis Rohm, started their journey from Tatuapé, São Paulo, on June 6, 1985. Their destination was Lorena, and then Piquete, in the Paraíba Valley, São Paulo.

Upon arrival in Lorena, they proceeded to Piquete, where they were welcomed by Chief Paulinho, the leader of the local scout group, Puris. Chief Paulinho led them to the Refúgio dos Marins, which was then the residence of Seu Afonso. This marked the first encounter with the place that would become the base for their activities.
