A 38-year-old man died after falling from a cliff while trying to pick a flower for his girlfriend around 3 p.m. on Saturday (07/09/2011), in Joaquim Távora, Northern Paraná region.
According to the Fire Department, the man was walking with his girlfriend in 'Vale da Pirambeira' and allegedly slipped from a height of 40 meters while trying to reach an orchid for the young woman.
Sergeant Luiz Souza told G1 that the rescue lasted about four hours and that the victim was found alive, but suffered cardiac arrest during the rescue operation. "We tried all procedures to try to revive him, but he did not survive the shock," said Souza.
Souza also said that the valley is frequently visited by the municipality's population and that the girlfriend, who allegedly requested the flower, seemed calm after the fall. "I didn't quite understand, but I could tell she had no 'idea' of the height and the seriousness of the situation," reported the sergeant. (Adriana Justi)
