A report from the Legal Medical Institute (IML) of Ourinhos (SP) confirmed the amputation of the right hand of a newborn who was admitted to the local Santa Casa for intestinal surgery. The document, delivered today to delegate Ana Rute Bertolaso, of the Women's Defense Police Station (DDM), is not conclusive regarding the causes of the amputation.
Baby Nicolas remained hospitalized at the end of the afternoon in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital. According to his father, Daniel Henrique da Cruz Almeida, the child was born with his pancreas attached to his intestine and needed surgery. He was admitted on July 13 and came out of surgery with his right hand amputated.

Almeida was informed by staff that there was a problem with the electric scalpel used during the surgery and the baby received an electric shock, resulting in second-degree burns on his chest and hand. The hand injury worsened, leading to the need for amputation. The hospital's management has opened an inquiry to investigate the incident.
The delegate sent an official letter to the Santa Casa requesting the outpatient record and the patient's medical chart with the procedures adopted and the medication administered to the baby. Three doctors will be summoned to testify in the investigation opened to look into the case, including the one who performed the surgery and the head of the ICU. These monstrous medical errors are becoming routine; this happens because to practice medicine, one never needed talent. Money is needed.
Every day, the medical course is increasingly being reserved only for the 'smart' elite, who have little intelligence and little willpower, but have a lot of money!... and the price is the death and mutilation of innocent people, (Sílvio Lôbo)
