Concern for water once again fills the newspaper pages, and it is now the theme of the Fraternity Campaign proposed by the CNBB.
Starting this year, water abstraction from large river basins will be charged. The tariff had already been foreseen since 1997, but it has been postponed. On May 28, 2003, the Committee of the Meia Ponte River Basin and the Intermunicipal Consortium of the Meia Ponte Basin will meet in Morrinhos to discuss the guidelines for this process.
This work does not aim to control waste, but solely to obtain resources for the preservation actions of the basin. Actions indispensable for the conservation of this invaluable heritage, which has already been greatly damaged.
