The year 2023 is one of the deadliest years on Everest.
Although it is the highest mountain in the world, it is not the most difficult. Many companies offer support services to less experienced climbers who have conquered the world's highest peak for personal fame on social media.
Today, the ascent includes experienced porters, fixed ropes, a kitchen with a rich menu, and guides.
But there is no easy 8,000-meter mountain. In addition to each person's physiological difficulties, weather and avalanches cause many deaths.
Meet this year's victims here:
List of victims
The Himalayan database has compiled the list of victims. It indicates (when available) the time of death and the altitude at which the climbers died. The first three sherpas on the list died while fixing the route, in a serac accident at the Khumbu icefall. All other climbers died after their health deteriorated due to altitude, exhaustion, and cold.
