Suhajda Szilárd (Békéscsaba, June 29, 1982 – Chomolungma, May 25–27, 2023) was a Hungarian expedition mountaineer.

His career
English teacher Szilárd Suhajda, originally from Békéscsaba, but also strongly linked to the city of Esztergom, began this part of his life as a backpacker, and then went to the Carpathians, Transylvania, and the Alps with hikers from Esztergom. After climbing Mont Blanc, he fell completely in love with this world. Mount Everest Summit
His next goal was to climb Chomolungma, the highest member of the Big Five. [11] On May 21, 2023, he left base camp at 5,500 meters to reach the Earth's highest mountain, Mount Everest, at an altitude of 8,848 meters, on May 24, using the camps he had already established. He planned all of this in classic alpine style, without oxygen bottles and Sherpas to help him climb.
On May 24, 2023, during the Everest summit push, radio contact with him was lost. [12] [13] On the night of May 25, after receiving information that the mountaineer was unconscious at 8,780 meters, at the bottom of the so-called Hillary Steps, the ground team agreed with the expedition provider and the Nepalese agency that on the morning of the 26th, they would try to reach Suhajda by helicopter to a height from where they could spot Suhajda, and at the same time, they would send Sherpas to retrieve the mountaineer, who hopefully could be reached by the end of the day on May 26th. On May 27, 2023, the rescue team did not find him, and as they saw no chance of finding him alive given the circumstances, the search was called off. [15]
