Out of a total of 120,000 km², the evolution has been reported through weekly reports from JACC as follows:
September 10, 2014... Start of weekly reports, the phase of bathymetric survey of over 100,000 km² [...] I will abbreviate here, but at the end you can click on 'Read more' to see each of the weekly reports, March 16, 2016 over 90,000 km² of s March 23, 2016 over 95,000 km²... ocean surface was investigated. March 30, 2016 over 95,000 km²... April 06, 2016 over 95,000 km²... April 13, 2016 over 100,000 km² ... April 20, 2016 over 100,000 km² April 27, 2016 over 100,000 km² May 04, 2016 over 105,000 km² May 11, 2016 over 105,000 km² May 18, 2016 over 105,000 km² May 25, 2016 over 105,000 km² June 01, 2016 over 105,000 km² have already been investigated... June 08, 2016, over 105,000 km² have already been investigated... (Am I imagining things or have they stopped updating?) June 15, 2016, the same story, 105,000 km² investigated!!! It's been stuck on this since the report at the beginning of May, that's 6 weeks. June 22, 2016... I'm even embarrassed, ... it's still 105.00 km² June 29, 2016... Phew!! 110,000 km² investigated, although the weather is bad, there's an expectation to finish in August 2016. And without new evidence, this area will not be increased. July 06, 2016 over 110,000 km² have already been investigated... July 13, 2016 over 110,000 km² have already been investigated... July 20, 2016 over 110,000 km² have already been investigated... July 22, 2016. With less than 10,000 km² remaining of the total 120,000 km² priority search area, the countries responsible for the investigation (Australia, China, and Malaysia) decide that the search will be suspended as soon as the priority area is completed.
The priority area, which was once 60,000 km², was extended once to a total of 120,000 km². However, with terrible weather and strong suspicions that they are searching in the wrong place, the search was suspended. Undoubtedly, the term "suspended" was used as a euphemism, as the searches have indeed stopped. The vessels will return to their origins, and the search teams will be disbanded.
Perhaps one day, if new information points to a probable location with credible evidence, then there will be a new search.
The work managers inform that the investigation data will be made available to the public. Rest assured that if this happens, you may find this data here. This news is not new, as the reports indicated that the area would not expand beyond what it already was.
July 27, 2016, a new report states that over 110,000 km² have already been investigated.
