Much has been said about the origin of vampires in history, and recently studies tend to relate diseases like porphyria and even lupus to the origin of this discussion. I went looking for news on the subject, and in conversation with doctor Carlos Augusto Santos Rodrigues, a psychiatrist and Legal Medicine professor, he told me that one of the clinical phenomena commonly related to vampirism is Hemoptysis.
In the Middle Ages, taverns were commonly used by bohemians, in nights of lust and drunkenness; the environment favored diseases like tuberculosis. Other much more serious and generally lethal conditions like Upper Digestive Hemorrhage, resulting from Esophageal Variceal Rupture as a consequence of cirrhosis due to excessive and occasional alcohol consumption.
