In Brazil alone, millions of people and animals drink water without adequate treatment. However, there are simple and accessible measures that can provide safety for humans and animals. Let's see.
Disinfection is one of the most important steps in treating drinking water, as it eliminates microorganisms harmful to health, which can transmit various diseases.
Chlorination: Disinfection performed using any chlorine-based product.

Bleach – approximate concentration of 2.0% Cl2
- 2 drops (0.1 mL) for 1 liter of water;
- 20 drops (1 mL) for 10 liters of water;
- 30 drops (1.5 mL) for 15 liters of water;
- 1 tablespoon (7.5 mL) for 75 liters of water;
- 10 mL for 100 liters of water;
- 1/2 teacup (100 mL) for 1000 liters of water;
- 1 liter (1000 mL) for 10,000 liters of water;
Attention: After adding, wait 30 (thirty) minutes before using the water.

Sodium Hypochlorite is sold in a stronger concentration, about 10% Cl2.
In this case, use:
- 1 drop (0.05 mL) for 2 liters of water;
- 20 drops (1.0 mL) for 100 liters of water;
- 1 tablespoon (7.5 mL) for 500 liters of water;
- 2 tablespoons (15 mL) for 1,000 liters of water;
- 1 cup (200 mL) for 10,000 liters of water;
Attention: After adding, wait 30 (thirty) minutes before using the water.
- READ the label of Bleach and Sodium Hypochlorite very carefully to ensure that the manufacturer states that the product can be used for food hygiene!!!
- NEVER use the commercialized LIQUID CHLORINE product that is viscous and/or colored, whose exclusive purpose is cleaning bathrooms and swimming pools. This product is highly concentrated and can lead to poisoning, burns, and even death.
