Anhanguera - GO
Learn more about this image by clicking here.

Anhanguera was founded in 1997, and its name means "old devil" in Tupi-Guarani1. Its estimated population in 2022 was only 924 inhabitants, making it the third smallest city in Brazil2. Its total area is 44 km², making it the smallest municipality in Goiás in territorial extension3.

Anhanguera emerged from the construction of the Goiás Railway, which connected Araguari (MG) to Goiânia (GO). The city has two historic railway stations: Engenheiro Bethout Station in Minas Gerais, and Anhanguera Station in Goiás[4][4]. The city's economy is based on agriculture, livestock, and local commerce3.

The city has a mother church dedicated to Our Lady of Aparecida, the patron saint of Brazil, and a railway museum that preserves the memory of the railway and local culture3. The city also holds traditional festivals, such as the Festa do Divino, Festa de São Sebastião, and Festa do Peão3.

You can find more information about Anhanguera on the official city hall website5, which also has a podcast with interviews, reports, and tips about the city5.
