Anápolis is a Brazilian municipality in the interior of the state of Goiás, in the Central-West region of the country. The city is located in the Brazilian Central Plateau, at an altitude of 1,017 meters.1
The history of Anápolis dates back to the early 18th century, when the region was inhabited by indigenous Caiapós. In 1870, the region was explored by Joaquim Xavier de Brito, who founded Fazenda Formosa. In 1887, the farm was sold to Américo Borges de Carvalho, who transformed it into a settlement. In 1907, the settlement was elevated to the category of district, named Santana das Antas. In 1911, the district was renamed Anápolis, and in 1912, it was elevated to the category of municipality.1
Agriculture and cattle raising are important economic activities in Anápolis. The city is known for the production of soybeans, corn, rice, beans, cotton, tomatoes, pineapples, mangoes, guavas, among other agricultural products. Cattle raising is focused on breeding cattle, pigs, poultry, and fish.1
Industry is also an important sector of Anápolis' economy. The city houses the Anápolis Agribusiness Industrial District (DAIA), which is one of the largest industrial hubs in the state of Goiás. The DAIA is responsible for the production of medicines, food, beverages, chemical products, among others.1
According to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), the population of Anápolis is 401,556 inhabitants, according to an estimate made in 2021.1
