She was allegedly murdered at the behest of her child's father, the then Flamengo goalkeeper, Bruno Fernandes. He, along with Luiz Henrique Romão "Macarrão" and Sergio Rosa Sales, will face a popular jury in 2012 for triple-qualified homicide: base motive, cruel means, and without giving a chance for defense. They are also charged with kidnapping, unlawful confinement, and concealment of a corpse. Marcos Aparecido dos Santos "Bola" is charged with double-qualified homicide: cruel means and without giving a chance for defense, and concealment of a corpse. Dayane Rodrigues, Elenilson Victor da Silva, and Wemerson Marques "Coxinha" are charged with kidnapping and unlawful confinement of Eliza's child. Fernanda Gomes Castro is charged with the kidnapping of Eliza and the child.
Macarrão was arrested and tried at the end of 2012. Bruno's trial is scheduled for March 2013.
